DORIS DAY ANIMAL FOUNDATION

Always Helping the Animals and the People Who Love Them!

Here are just some of the organizations that have received grants from the DDAF recently.

The Doris Day Animal Foundation is proud to announce that we have provided additional grants to additional caring and innovative non-profit organizations in order to help animals and the people who love them.

The programs we fund range from providing senior citizens with food for their pets to providing information for people caring for horses, supporting in-school humane educational and reading programs, training an assistance dog, rescuing greyhounds, and establishing scholarships for veterinary students specializing in shelter medicine.

RECENT GRANTS

Animal Guardians of America Located in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, this no-kill shelter rescues dogs regardless of their physical condition. DDAF assisted with two hip surgeries, one for Maggie, a German Shepherd, with a genetic hip problem and one for Emma, a Chow hit by a car. The grant also assisted with some socialization training for Pepper, a Dalmatian/lab mix rescued from an abusive environment.

Ashtabula County Humane Society Serving all of Northeastern Ohio, ACH provides low-cost spay/neuter services and performs humane investigations in animal cruelty cases, as well as sheltering abandoned and homeless animals. DDAF’s grant helped them with the veterinary costs for a mother dog and six puppies that had been removed from an extremely neglectful and abusive situation, and removing a large tumor from Minnie another adult dog in their care.

Colorado Animal Rescue Express
CARE provides transportation to animals rescued from near-certain euthanasia in Midwestern shelters to forever homes in the Rocky Mountain area. With our help, CARE was able to fund the expenses of one rescue trip that helped over 40 dogs find their way to forever homes.

Our grant also provided some funding for CARE’s Jake’s Fund. One of the fund’s rescues was Rambler, a black lab pup, found in a roadside ditch with two broken femurs needing surgical repair.

Doris Day Horse Rescue and Adoption Center
Located at the Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch in Murchison, Texas, and in honor of Doris’s great friend, Cleveland Amory, DDAF partnered with the HSUS in responding to the needs of hundreds of abused and starving horses in Nebraska. Currently under construction, the new Doris Day facility will serve as a model for the re-homing of horses.

C&W Rustic Hollow Shelter This no-kill, cage-free, special needs animal sanctuary in Iowa shelters nearly 300 cats and numerous senior dogs. DDAF’s grant assisted with supplies needed for a small on-site clinic for local vets who make house calls when needed and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries to the general public. C&W Rustic Hollow Shelter has been providing help since 1985.

Ellicott Wildlife Rehab
Licensed by Colorado and US Fish & Wildlife, in 2007 Ellicott Wildlife achieved a 90% success in treatment/release rate. DDAF’s grant will assist with operating expenses during the summer when they are the busiest with orphaned babies and injured wildlife

HSUS’s Complete Guide to Horse Care

Doris Day wrote the foreword, and DDAF partnered with The Humane Society of the U.S. to release this equine care book co-authored by Erin Harty, a lifelong horsewoman and former Chronicle of the Horse online forums moderator, and equine experts on the HSUS staff. An engaging and easy-to-read overview of the joys, costs and responsibilities of horse ownership, the book provides an educational resource for first-time and experienced horse owners. Material includes information on how to choose a horse; meeting a horse’s physical, emotional and nutritional needs; an overview of horse breeds and disciplines; and advice to help guide horse owners through good decision-making at all stages of a horse’s life.
